🎬 IShowSpeed's Africa Tour: When the World Finally Saw What We've Always Known 🌍
28 days. 20 countries. Over 48 million witnesses. One unforgettable homecoming.
The world, is finally seeing Africa the way we've always known it.
Not as a monolith of poverty and struggle. Not as a place that needs saving. But as a continent bursting with beauty, joy, innovation, love, and life.
When American YouTuber IShowSpeed (Darren Watkins Jr.) touched down in Africa for his 28-day, 20-country tour, something shifted. Not just for him - but for the millions of people around the world who watched every unscripted, unfiltered, joy-filled second.
A Son's Promise, A Mother's Pride
Before Speed was filling stadiums or touring 20 African countries in 28 days, before the world knew his name - he was just Darren. A kid from Cincinnati with a fire in his belly and a dream his own mama couldn't see yet.
When his streaming career started catching fire during COVID, his mother stood at a crossroads every parent knows: protect your child from what looks like risk, or trust a vision you don't fully understand. She gave him an ultimatum - quit YouTube or find somewhere else to live.

The IShowSpeed Philosophy: "If I Can See It, I Can Do It"
In his Club Shay Shay interview, Shannon Sharpe asked Speed how he picked up gymnastics backflips on his first day in a gym. Speed's answer?
"If I see something in my head and I can visualize it, I can just do it."
That's not arrogance. That's faith in action.
Speed believes he can beat the world's fastest man. He believes he can make the Olympics. He believes he can do anything he sets his mind to.
Keep that Speed energy. If you can see it, you can build it. 🚀

✨ CA Family Feature: From Fear to Faith - Detra's Transformation Story
"I had all the fears. The long flight. The diseases. What I'd been told about Africa my whole life. I almost talked myself out of going."
- Detra Smith-O'Bryan, CEO, Author, and the woman who almost let fear stop her from coming home
Detra Smith-O'Bryan had every reason not to go to Ghana.
The flight was too long. Malaria was a real threat. The media had painted a picture she couldn't shake. And honestly? She was scared.
For over 30 years, Detra had built her career helping others overcome barriers—as CEO of an affordable housing nonprofit in Tampa, she'd spent decades empowering people to achieve homeownership. She was a woman of faith, a published author, a certified coach who taught mindset transformation.
But when it came to Africa? Her own mindset was holding her hostage.
Then came the signs: Her DNA test revealed Ghana in her ancestry. She watched Gabrielle Union's 50th birthday celebration in Ghana on Netflix. Conversations with her Nigerian assistant T.T. peaked her interest and finally, her friend Tahisha, who had traveled to Ghana with the Pinellas County Urban League, knew Detra and connected her to Certified Africa—the company that had hosted the Urban League's Ghana trip.
Everything was aligning. And Detra, a woman who teaches others to move in faith, knew she had to practice what she preached.
The Moment That Changed Everything
Ghana didn't just meet Detra's expectations. It shattered them.
But the real transformation didn't happen in Accra's streets. It happened in a single, unforgettable moment: the Kente Royalty Photoshoot.
When the Ghanaian women draped the Kente cloth around Detra's shoulders, one woman stared at her and said: "You look like you're actually from here."
Detra and Marcus in their Kente Royalty Photoshoot in Ghana 👑🇬🇭
"I felt it," Detra says. "A connection I can't describe. I wasn't posing for a photo. I was in motion. I was home."
For a woman who'd spent her life teaching others to see beyond their circumstances, Ghana gave her a vision of herself she'd never seen before: African royalty. Rooted. Whole. Free.
What She Found (That She Didn't Know She Was Looking For)
🔥 She Found Her Strength – "I had to coach myself. I'm a certified coach, but I had to say, 'Okay, Detra. You tell people to move in faith. Now it's your turn.'"
💙 She Found Her Pace – "Ghana taught me how to slow down. To listen to my thoughts. To connect deeper with myself."
👨👩👧👦 She Found Family – "I didn't feel like a tourist. Not at all. I felt like we were living there. Like we just got on a bus and went for a good time with family."
At Cape Coast Castle, she stood in the doorway of no return and thought about her ancestors. On bumpy rural roads, her husband Marcus said, "I will never complain about our roads again." Gratitude. Perspective. Transformation.
From "If" to "When"
Before Ghana, Detra talked about Africa in terms of "if."
If I can get over my fear. If the timing is right. If it's safe.
After Ghana, everything shifted to "when."
Within months, Detra and Marcus booked South Africa for September 2026. They're planning Thailand with us in March 2027. And she's considering hosting her own mindset transformation retreat in Africa, bringing her coaching clients home to the continent.
Her children—Detra's mission is clear: pass down the heritage, the connection, the transformation… She wants to do annual family vacations on the African continent instead of the Caribbean or on a cruise.
Detra’s Message to You: The One Still Hesitating
"Take the first step. Don't think of it as just a trip—it's an enlightenment. It literally expanded my perspective on everything."
"Remind yourself who you are. Don't let fear dictate your possibilities."
"Be open-minded. Go over there, remember who you are, and let the country do the rest. I guarantee you'll come back clearer minded."
Detra had every fear you have. Every doubt. Every excuse. And she went anyway.
Now she's planning her third trip with Certified Africa. She's bringing her family. She's planning to host a retreat on the African continent. She's using her Ghana experience in her coaching and speaking.
Ghana didn't just give Detra a vacation. It gave her a vision of who she's always been—and who she's becoming.

🌱 Foundation Update: Nii's Message to the Youth: Planting Seeds of Transformation

Nii's Message to Ghana's Future Leaders
Our co-founder Nii Armah Quaye had the honor of speaking to the future leaders of Africa at FertileFields School in Ofankor, Accra, Ghana last week—a moment that beautifully embodies the heart of our Foundation's mission.
Nii's message was powerful, timely, and deeply rooted in truth: Children have the power to accept or reject the seeds that are planted in their lives through the power of the tongue.
He reminded the students of Genesis 1:3, where God spoke and something was created. In the same way, our words—and the words of others—have the power to create something about us, to shape our identity, and to define our path.
But here's the liberating truth: When someone says something negative about you, you have the power to quietly reject it. You don't have to accept it. You don't have to carry it. You don't have to let it become your story.
This is the kind of empowerment we believe in—teaching our young people that they are not defined by the limitations others try to place on them, but by the truth they choose to speak over their own lives.

Thank you to FertileFields School for the invitation and for the incredible work you're doing to shape the minds and hearts of Ghana's next generation. And thank you, Nii, for continuing to pour into the lives of young people with wisdom, love, and hope. 💚💛❤️
This is the work of the Foundation—not just funding projects, but investing in people, empowering communities, and planting seeds of transformation across the continent.

✨ Exchange Program: Bringing Our Youth Home to Africa
Introducing the Certified Africa Foundation Exchange Program Scholarship
We need your help spreading the word about something truly special.
Our Exchange Program Scholarship is officially open, and we're bringing 3 African-American students (ages 15-25) home to Ghana for an 8-day cultural immersion experience that will change their lives forever in partnership with the Dexter Foundation.
Here's the beautiful news: The Dexter Foundation has already committed to sponsoring one student—making it possible for us to bring three young people home to Africa. 🎉
This isn't just a trip - it's a homecoming. A journey of identity, resilience, and connection. These young people will walk the same paths our ancestors walked, discover their roots, meet Ghanaian youth their age, and come back knowing that the world is bigger, more beautiful, and more connected than they ever imagined.
But here's where we need you:
If you know a student who deserves this opportunity - a young person who's never been to the African continent, who's curious about their heritage, who needs to see themselves reflected in a bigger story - please share this program with them.
If you're a teacher, a youth leader, a parent, an auntie, an uncle, a mentor - talk about this program. Post it. Forward it. Put it in front of the young people in your life who need to know that this door is open.
And if you want to help us fund this dream?
Does your organization want to sponsor a student like the Dexter Foundation? Full sponsorship covers airfare, accommodation, meals, insurance, and vaccinations in Ghana (approximately $5,000 per student). What a legacy to be part of a young person's life-changing journey home.
Prefer to give monthly? A monthly donation of just $16 helps send these students home and supports all our Foundation projects - water wells, school fees for autistic students in Ghana, and cultural exchange programs. Your consistent giving can go toward sponsoring one student over time.
Here's what we're asking:
✨ Share this program in your networks
✨ Tag students, parents, teachers, youth organizations
✨ Donate if you can: Donate Now
✨ Help us make sure every eligible student knows this opportunity exists
We have the plane tickets. We have the itinerary. We have the partnerships. Now we need to find the students whose lives are about to change.
Will you help us bring them home?
Let's make this happen, family. 🌍✨
📝 APPLY NOW:
✈️ Submit Your Application Here - Deadline: April 30, 2026
Donate: Monthly giving starts at $16
How You Can Help:
Imagine if 50 members of our CA family donated just $16 per month - that's $200 per person for the year, which would fully fund both students' life-changing journeys. Your monthly contribution doesn't just support study abroad; it fuels other CA Foundation projects: village water wells, autistic students tuition, and cultural exchange programs etc.
Your $16/month helps:
- Send 2 students to discover their heritage in Ghana
- Provide clean water to communities in need
- Cover school fees for deserving students
- Build bridges between the diaspora and the continent
You can do a one time, monthly or yearly recurring monthly donation.
Every dollar plants seeds of transformation. Join us in giving back to the continent that gives us so much.
🇬🇭 Thinking About Making Ghana Home? Here's What You Need to Know
Residency. Citizenship. What's the difference—and which path is right for you?
We've seen it happen time and time again: You visit Ghana once, and something inside you shifts. The second trip, you're already talking about "when I move back" instead of "if." By the third trip, you're looking at land, asking about schools, and wondering what it would really take to call the Motherland home.
Here's the truth: There's more than one way to make Ghana your home—and understanding the difference between residency permits and full citizenship could be the key to making your transition as smooth and empowered as possible.
Can you vote? Can you own land anywhere? Can your children automatically claim Ghanaian nationality? What about access to government programs? The answers depend on your status—and we want you to have all the facts before you make your move.
We've broken down everything you need to know in a comprehensive guide that covers:
✅ Rights and restrictions with residency permits
✅ Full benefits of Ghanaian citizenship
✅ Land ownership rules
✅ The Right of Abode program for the diaspora
✅ How to transition from residency to citizenship
✅ Dual citizenship considerations
Whether you're just dreaming about the possibility or actively planning your move, this guide will help you make the decision that's right for your journey.

The door is open. The question is: How do you want to walk through it? 🇬🇭💚💛❤️

⛪ Timket in Ethiopia: Witnessing One of Africa's Most Sacred Celebrations 🇪🇹
When Faith Meets the Water's Edge
Every January, something extraordinary happens in Ethiopia. Streets transform into rivers of white-robed believers. Ancient tabots — replicas of the Ark of the Covenant — are carried through cities on the heads of priests draped in ceremonial robes. Drummers beat rhythms that have echoed for centuries. And at the center of it all: water. Sacred, life-giving, cleansing water.
This is Timket. Ethiopia's Epiphany. The celebration of Christ's baptism in the River Jordan. And it is unlike anything else on earth.
What Is Timket?
Timket (also spelled Timkat) celebrates the baptism of Jesus Christ in the River Jordan by John the Baptist. It falls on January 19th each year (or January 20th in a leap year), and it is one of the most important religious festivals in Ethiopia's Orthodox Christian calendar.
But Timket is more than a religious observance—it's a living, breathing demonstration of faith that pulls entire communities into the streets, dressed in traditional white netelas (shawls), singing hymns that date back over a thousand years.
Where Timket Shines Brightest:
Gondar – The historic former capital hosts the most famous Timket celebration at Fasilides' Bath, a massive stone pool built by Emperor Fasilides in the 17th century.
Lalibela – Known for its rock-hewn churches, Lalibela's Timket is intimate and deeply spiritual.
Addis Ababa – The capital brings urban energy to Timket, with massive crowds and vibrant street celebrations.
Why Timket Matters to the Diaspora:
For the diaspora, Timket is a window into the unbroken threads of African Christianity—one of the oldest Christian traditions on the continent. Ethiopia's Orthodox Church traces its roots back to the 4th century, and Timket is a living link to that ancient faith.

🏗️ Ethiopia's Future Is Now: Why You Need to Watch This Development Video 🇪🇹
The Africa You Don't See on the News
When was the last time you saw a mainstream news story about African infrastructure? About skyscrapers rising in Addis Ababa? About high-speed rail connecting cities? About innovation hubs and tech campuses transforming economies?
Probably never.
That's because the narrative the world is fed about Africa — and particularly about Ethiopia — is stuck in a decades-old story of poverty, famine, and need. But that story is incomplete. And it's time we saw the full picture.
The Video That's Changing the Conversation
This video is making waves across social media because it shows what so many people didn't know - or refused to believe: Ethiopia is building at a pace that rivals anywhere on earth.
New highways. Modern airports. Massive public works projects. High-rise buildings reshaping city skylines. Ethiopia is not waiting for anyone's permission to develop. It's doing the work.
What You'll See:
🏗️ Infrastructure Development – Roads, bridges, and public works projects connecting cities and regions
🏙️ Urban Expansion – Addis Ababa's skyline evolving with modern high-rises and commercial centers
✈️ Transportation Projects – Improved airports, rail lines, and mobility networks
💡 Economic Growth – Business districts, innovation hubs, and a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem
Why Our Community Should Watch This:
- It Counters the Single Story – For too long, the world has been told one story about Africa. This video tells a different one.
- It Inspires Investment & Return – Seeing Ethiopia's development shows opportunities and growth.
- It's a Source of Pride – It feels good to see African cities thriving.
- It Reminds Us That Africa Doesn't Need Saving—It Needs Partnership
