Later that evening, we will enjoy a welcome dinner together in preparation for the adventure ahead.
You have the day in Nairobi to explore the surroundings
We’ll visit Giraffe Centre - a sanctuary for the then endangered Rothschild giraffe, followed by a visit to the Kazuri bead factory - You have an opportunity to meet and talk to the women as they work shaping, painting or stringing the beads by hand. You’ll also get a chance to drive through Nairobi City center.
Drive through Kenyatta International Convention Center to view Nairobi from all directions (Dependent on management authorization). Drive through the Kenya Parliament and the Supreme court of Kenya. Visit Uhuru Gardens, Kenya’s largest Memorial Park. Uhuru is a Swahili word meaning freedom. Of importance to note is that it is Kenya’s birthplace. This is where the first Kenyan flag was first raised and thus marking the very first year of independence on the 12th December 1963.
Within the garden are two monuments commemorating Kenya’s independence, and a Mugumo (fig) tree. The Mugumo tree is symbolic as it was planted on the spot where the Union Jack (British flag) was brought down and Kenya’s national flag was first hoisted. The site was a diversity of native flora and fauna of savannah woodland.
Later, we enjoy a meal together and explore Nairobi night life
Live one day the Maasai way
Today you have a magical opportunity to connect with Kenya’s proud Maasai people in an authentic and interactive way by becoming part of the hustle and bustle of Maasai village life. Having maintained a semi-nomadic way of life on their communal lands for centuries, the Maasai are well-known for their distinctive dress, valued customs and unique social and
family structures, which include rites of passage and revered respect for elders. On this fun and insightful day, you'll take part in the rituals of the warriors, perform daily tasks with the women, and share much laughter and many ideas as you listen to fascinating stories and folklore.
A warm song and dance welcome awaits you at the village, and the wife of a village elder will offer to dress you in traditional Maasai shuka cloth or ‘African blanket’. You’ll also be invited to help out the women and learn their skills of constructing a new manyatta – a traditional Maasai homestead.
Time for lunch when you join the Maasai mothers to cook up a traditional Kenyan meal over an open-fire, and they'll share stories as they show you how to create your own piece of highly-decorative Maasai beaded jewelry. Then meet the young Maasai warriors, or morans, who explain their rites of passage as they become warriors, the defenders of the tribe.
They teach you how to throw a traditional spear, climb speedily up an acacia tree in the event there are predators in the bush, or even the extraordinary jumping dance, or ‘adumu’ which is how they demonstrate their prowess. Your hosts impart the knowledge of their ancient ways and are just as interested in your life as you are in theirs.
In the evening, we will drive to the Carnivore restaurant, a must visit experience for a first-time Kenya visitor! The restaurant's specialty is meat, with an option of choosing between an all-you-can-eat dinner in a garden setting.
The experience works on a simple all-you-can-eat basis: as long as the paper flag on your table is flying, beautifully attired waiters will keep bringing the meat, which is carved right at the table.
We’ll be up early to take in the wondrous African sunrise as the land and the animals come to life. This is a special time in the park when the air is cool and still, reflecting the first light of the day.
One of the great surprises of Tsavo West is Mzima Springs, a naturally fed oasis brimming with wildlife, exotic fish, crocodile, hippo, and birds. We can leave our 4 x 4 Jeep for a guided walk along the green shores, taking in this idyllic landscape.
Then it’s a relatively short drive to Amboseli Park. Mt. Kilimanjaro will be your beacon, guiding you to the reserve and its busy world of wildlife. You’re guaranteed to spot herds of free-ranging elephants trooping past, with stately Kilimanjaro framing their progress.
With its sparse foliage, Amboseli is known to be an easy reserve for wildlife spotting and you’ll be busy with your guide, checking off the various hunters and grazers you see.
This park is a photographer’s dream so be ready to capture dozens of striking memories.
Toward evening, the clouds covering Kilimanjaro’s peak may disperse giving us memorable views of the mountain’s snow-
