DAY 5

Tsavo West National Park

After breakfast proceed to Tsavo West with en-route game drive and late lunch

Tsavo West provides a unique step back in time - to the days when tens of thousands of giant beasts roamed this forested land. Today, the forests are gone - the result of too many elephants and too little rain - but, thanks to the abundant snowmelt from Kilimanjaro, the land continues to water a huge variety of wildlife, from elephant and buffalo to lion, leopard, oryx, lesser kudu and klipspringer. Even the dangerously depleted black rhino are making a minor comeback in a small, fiercely-guarded 70 square kilometers sanctuary.

One of the great surprises of Tsavo West is Mzima Springs, a naturally fed oasis brimming with wildlife, exotic fish, crocodile, hippo, and birds. We can leave our 4 x 4 Jeep for a guided walk along the green shores, taking in this idyllic landscape.

Tonight, dine in the wild and taste safari life at its best, accompanied by a group of scarlet clad Maasai morans (warriors) or Akamba drummers. Located in a grove of acacia trees immediately adjacent to the lodge, your lantern-lit dinner begins with cocktails around the campfire. Dinner will then be cooked on a blazing BBQ, accompanied by a wide range of salads and vegetables. While dessert and coffee are served,  cultural entertainers will provide you with songs, chants and dance displays.

Overnight: Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge

DAY 6

Tsavo West | Into The Bush

After an early breakfast, our driver will meet you and transfer you to the Nairobi SGR Railway Terminal, located at Syokimau to board the 8:00 am Madaraka Express train to Voi.

The train has large windows that allow one to enjoy beautiful vistas of hills, plains, the Yatta Plateau (the world’s longest lava flow) and possibly wildlife. Upon arrival at the Voi train station, you will be met and transferred to the Hotel, which takes approximately 45 minutes.

Reach the Hotel, check-in and have lunch.

After lunch, you will enjoy an afternoon game drive at the Sanctuary. The game drive will provide you with a great opportunity to view the diverse array of wildlife within the Sanctuary which is home to more than 50 species of mammals and over 300 species of birds. Look out for elephants, lion, cheetah, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and ostrich.

The Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary derives its name from the surrounding clusters of hills and is an integral part of the Eastern Arc Forests classified as a biodiversity hotspot. The Sanctuary covers an area of 28,000 acres of mosaic habitat comprising riverine forests, savanna woodland and grassland.

The Sanctuary straddles the southern part of Tsavo West National Park and is an important dispersal area and migrating corridor for wildlife between Tsavo East and Tsavo West National Parks. The topography is generally flat offering breathtaking views of the Mt. Kilimanjaro, Pare Mountains, the Uluguru Mountains and the clusters of Taita Hills with a seasonal river dividing the Sanctuary into a valley and lowland plains.

WOW!!!!!! Let's just say, it would be very difficult to verbalize how great our trip was as a result of booking with Certified Africa. My wife and I are avid travelers, touching 16 countries so far. We usually create our own itinerary and almost ALWAYS focus on hanging with locals to gain the most intimate and organic experiences possible. Nonetheless, this was our 15-year Anniversary trip and thought it would be a great idea to allow someone else to plan the trip and sit back and enjoy it. With only an introduction call to discuss some must haves and our set budget, Certified Africa DELIVERED!!!!!!!! Creating a custom itinerary that blew our minds and expectations. We have already begun planning our Tanzania and Zanzibar trip for 2022. From me and my beautiful wife to you........What are you waiting for????????????? Book your next trip to the Motherland with the only travel company we feel comfortable recommending, Certified Africa! Richard and Raquel
